Lawrence Douglas County Fire Medical Station No. 4
Fire Medical Station No. 4 is a 12,000 square-foot facility based upon the prototype designed for Fire Station 2. The facility has a three bay apparatus that comprises half of the building area, and the living, kitchen, exercise, office and training areas make up the other half, serving up to 12 fire/medical personnel. The original prototype was so desirable that only minimal changes were made, including new floor finishes and enclosed sleeping rooms for better acoustic privacy.
The apparatus bay is a steel frame structure clad in corrugated galvalume with a black burnished block veneer at its base. The “living” portion of the building is a wood frame building with a sloped standing seam metal roof and generous overhangs. The exterior walls of the wood frame are painted smooth cement siding. A two story tall copper clad box between the two primary structures houses the station office with a storage area above.
